After 2 successful events during the first half of the school year, students from across the entire Trust recently gathered at Ashfield School to compete against each other (with a friendly spirit) in a quiz of general knowledge, pop culture, science and more.

Upon arrival at Ashfield School, students and staff made their way to the Trust Conference Centre and took their seats in their 4-student teams. Mrs Smallman from Heritage High School then welcomed the teams and gave a brief explanation of the quiz, students would answer 100 questions on a number of different topics ranging from general knowledge to sounds to Disney trivia. The conference centre was full of competitive buzz and hushed tones as students tried to discuss answers without helping out competing schools.

Speaking about the event Allestree Woodland student Adam (Y9) said:

‘Today has helped me expand my horizons to The Two Counties Trust community. Helping me work as a team, boosting my confidence and communication in a brilliant environment’.

A number of other students also spoke of how they had been revising general knowledge, even keeping on top of the news to prepare for the school-based heats. Competing against fellow students to join the varsity team was no small feat.

The contest was incredibly close, between all 10 schools just 18 points separated the first and last place team. With Swanwick Hall School achieving third place and a tie for runner-up between Ashfield School and Allestree Woodlands School, the event was won by Frederick Gent School with a tremendous score of 88 points!

Well done to all staff that supported students in this event as well as all students who took part in the quiz, this event was truly an embodiment TTCT values of Ambition shown by how close todays competition was, Teamwork shown by how well students worked together and Honesty displayed by the respect shown by students to each other when marking each other’s work.

A final thank you to Mrs Smallman for her hardwork in organising this event and congratulations to Frederick Gent School for their win today. At TTCT we are already looking forward to next year’s event!
