The library is located in the main school, next to the Hall and above inclusion. It is open from 8.15am until 4.00pm (3.30pm on Fridays).
The library is also open at break and lunchtime for students to do homework, change books, read quietly, and use computers. A library pass is needed to use the library at lunchtime.
We have a well-stocked library, with access to Android tablets and the internet. Students are encouraged to use the library regularly and wisely. It is important to use the library, not only as an extension to the normal classroom activities and as a resource for spare time interests, but to develop the more individualised approach to learning which is increasingly important at secondary level.
Books are divided into two main sections – Fiction and Non-Fiction.
Fiction books are divided into two sections:
- Books organised by genre or themes.
- Books organised by Accelerated reader levels.
Non-Fiction books are arranged by subjects.
Year 7 and 8 students all follow the Accelerated Reading Scheme. This involves reading fiction and non-fiction books and completing computer- based quizzes about the books.
Students can also access online ebooks on the VleBooks site where students can read books online.
