On Saturday 25th November 2023 a number of our post 16 students participated in the @YoungCitizensUK National Bar Mock Trial Competition.  It was the first in person competition we have participated in since before the pandemic and it was wonderful to see the students in action competing against other schools and colleges from around the region.

The competition was held at the University of Law in Birmingham.  The students themselves undertake the roles of barristers, witnesses, jurors and court staff and participate in a mock Crown Court Trial.   They are given two cases to prepare and they must present these during the course of the day.  The trials are judged by real judges and barristers and the students are marked on their performance in each of the roles.

Our students were an absolute credit to the school and to themselves and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with them representing Ashfield School.  Although we were not lucky enough to win the heats on the day I can say without a shadow of a doubt that every student was amazing and has gained a lot from participating in the competition.

A massive thank you to Miss Santoro (who also helped with the preparation for the competition) and to Miss Ward for coming along to support the students.

Well done Team Ashfield.
