After an amazing run of results for Ashfield’s Year 7 basketball team in the Jnr NBA league this year, it was finally time to compete in the conference finals. We drew Nottingham Academy in the semi-finals, which were played at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena.  It was a very impressive venue with brand new facilities for the students to play on; instantly, you could see the students’ eyes light up and this should definitely inspire them to win in future years so they can play there more often!

When it came down to the game, Ashfield showed up to the occasion! Despite Nottingham Academy winning all previous results, a fantastic performance saw us win 18-14. We started the game with our usual tactics of intensity and being physical, which emphasised our strengths, and led the game 10-1 as we went into half time, with many chances going into the basket!

There were some excellent performances all round and all 11 students managed to get some game time. It was a nerve-wracking end as we used time-outs to regroup after a 14-5 lead was shortened to the eventual 18-14!  Nevertheless, Ashfield School are through to the finals which will take place on 15th June at the Wildcats Arena.

With our opposition still to be decided, updates for this will be sent out in due course. In the meantime, a massive well done to the squad, and finals…here we come!
