After an amazing run of results for Year 8 this year in the Junior NBA League, it was finally time to compete in the Conference Semi-Finals, where Ashfield were drawn against Becket School at Nottingham Wildcats Arena.  As our Year 7s discovered recently, the arena boasts brand new facilities and an excellent court for the students to play on, which certainly helped our students get into the correct mindset for the game!

When it came to the game, Ashfield finished just short, unfortunately losing 27-21. It was an end-to- end game from both sides, but Becket always managed to keep a 6-point lead in the final quarters. Despite the loss, Ashfield were left to rue many missed lay-up opportunities and 2-point shots. On another day, they would have scored their attempts, but credit to them as they kept going until the end! All 10 of the squad gained valuable game-time experience and we’re quite sure that they will bounce back and their obvious disappointment will spur them on for next year.

This was our first year together as a school joining the Jr NBA and for us to finish in the final 4 schools from 32 in Nottinghamshire is a credit to the students and a massive achievement for Ashfield!

Although the Year 8s are now out of the running, our Year 7s will be travelling back to the Wildcat Arena to compete in the Finals on 15th June, with a full day out competing against the very best!

A massive well done to all students who have competed so far; they really have given their all, representing Ashfield School and themselves in the very best way possible.
