Students from across Ashfield School and Post-16 took part in the highly anticipated Ashfield School show. This year’s production of Legally Blonde The Musical wowed not only Ashfield students, staff and families but also a representative of The National School Theatre Awards.

Legally Blonde The Musical is a high energy and sharp-witted comedy, the story follows the character of Elle Woods. A sorority president with a love of fashion, who enrols in Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner. During her studies, she discovers how to help others using her newly discovered knowledge of the law, all while managing to defy the expectations of those around her and staying true to herself.

Staff have worked to their usual incredibly high standards in the devising and creation of this production. Direction and production were led by Mr Sluman, the choreography by Miss Brooks and Mrs Jackson and music of the show was supervised by Mr Beachell. Under this careful direction students have provided exceptional performances such as Cassie in the lead role of Elle, Ollie as Callahan, Georgia as Paulette all of which received tremendous praise from the National School Theatre Awards in their published review of the production who wrote:

‘Ashfield School’s Legally Blonde was far more than a school production; it was a celebration of collaboration, creativity, and commitment. Every performer remained fully in character throughout, with strong still images, expressive gestures, and believable reactions. Vocally, the cast was exceptional, with particularly outstanding diction and clarity’.

After experiencing the production for themselves the NSTA has now submitted Ashfield School’s production of Legally Blonde for nominations in several categories at their awards event held in London. Ashfield School has a proud history of performing at this event and is now waiting to find out if students will be asked to showcase their talents on a professional stage in London’s West End later this year.

The Ashfield School production is just one of the many ways that students can experience the arts at Ashfield School. Alongside choirs, dance clubs and various theatre clubs that run throughout the school year, Ashfield School is committed to ensuring that students thrive in their Performing Arts studies.

Well done to all students who either performed in this production or assisted in the logistics, set-building, music performances and cast. Our thanks also go to our fantastic staff members who have helped guide our students through this incredible production.
